Salinas is one of the happiest cities in America, according to a ranking released this week by National Geographic. Salinas ranked alongside cities like Honolulu, Anchorage, Ann Arbor, Boulder and Austin. The report showed a concentration of “happy cities” along California’s Central Coast.
National Geographic teamed up with Gallup social scientists and best-selling author Dan Buettner to explore happiness across the nation. They examined 15 factors that contribute to people living their best lives, such as healthy eating, civic engagement and financial security. The research team collected nearly 250,000 interviews in 190 metropolitan areas.
The ranking highlights Salinas as John Steinbeck’s hometown, and references landmarks such as the National Steinbeck Center and the Steinbeck House, his childhood home. Learn more about life in Salinas here.
